February 2026
We are now hosting two one-day roadshow events to demonstrate the project’s three free-to-use, web-based tools and show how they can be applied in practice.
What are the Road to Net Zero tools?
Developed by Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee UK (HAUC(UK)) in partnership with Transport for London, GeoPlace, University of Birmingham and EA Technology, and funded through TfL’s Lane Rental scheme, the tools enable organisations to:
- Evaluate the carbon emissions associated with street works and road works
- Assess wider impacts, including disruption and societal effects
- Compare alternative delivery scenarios
- Support strategic, evidence-based planning across programmes of work
Used consistently across the sector, the tools provide a shared evidence base for measuring progress and informing better decision-making.
What to expect at the roadshows
Each event will provide:
- Live demonstrations of the RtNZ tools
- Hands-on exploration of how different delivery choices affect carbon and wider outcomes
- Insight from leading members of the project team
- Opportunities to help shape the next phase of the project
These sessions are designed for highway authorities, utilities, contractors and policymakers who are serious about embedding carbon reduction and impact evaluation into everyday practice.
As Carl Eddleston, Director of Network Management and Resilience at Transport for London, has said:
“This major piece of work will ensure the sector leads the race by informing key stakeholders on the changes needed to reach net zero, while avoiding unintended consequences as a result.”

There is no time to waste
Achieving net zero in our sector requires more than ambition, it requires evidence, shared understanding and practical tools that can be used consistently across organisations.
These roadshows are an opportunity to see how that can be done.
We look forward to welcoming you.
