Highway Workforce - Suffolk Highways - Beccles Road

Overview

Highway Workforce worked in partnership with Suffolk Highways to undertake essential repairs along the busy A146 Beccles Road in Lowestoft. The site was located within a densely populated residential area and required a solution which provided a durable repair whilst balancing the need to minimise disruption to residents and the travelling public.

Two specialist mastic crews equipped with purpose-built mastic boilers and bespoke tools worked under an out of hours road closure allowing essential works along the centreline joint. The works were phased over 5 nights to avoid lengthy diversion routes and minimise disruption to local traffic.

Results
79 defects totalling 667m2 were repaired.
Each repair was completed without the need for breakout, excavation, or compaction equipment, eliminating the risk of HAVs for the operatives undertaking the work. Consequently, zero waste was generated during the repair process. Noise and vibration were eliminated ensuring residents were unaffected by the works. A carbon saving of 29,221 kg/CO2e was delivered making a significant contribution to Suffolk’s carbon reduction targets.
